Pay your platform fees by direct debit from your bank account instead of a card - usually the lower-cost option.
How to link a bank account for direct debit#
You can pay your DebtOps platform fees either by debit/credit card (or Google Pay) or by linking a bank account for direct debit. Direct debit is usually the lower-cost option. You pick one billing method - not both.
Before you start#
- You need an admin role with the Billing permission. If you don't see the option to link a bank account, ask your account admin.
- Currently supported: New Zealand and Australia bank accounts (NZ/AU BECS direct debit). Other countries aren't available yet.
- You'll need your bank account details on hand, and access to your bank statement a day or two after linking (to read two small verification deposits - see step 2).
1. Link your account#
- Go to Integrations (or Settings → Payments) and open Airwallex.
- Click Connect, then choose Bank account.
- Fill in:
- Your country and account holder type (business or individual)
- Your account name and account number
- The signatory's name and email (auto-filled from your organisation/profile if available - you can edit it)
- Read the direct debit authorization notice and check the box to confirm.
- Click Submit.
Your account now shows Verifying your bank account - Airwallex sends two small deposits (a few cents each) to confirm you own the account. These take 1-2 business days to appear on your statement.
2. Verify the two deposits#
- Once you see the two amounts on your bank statement, come back to the same page and click Enter amounts.
- Type in both amounts exactly as they appear (e.g.
0.12and0.34). - Click Verify.
If the amounts don't match, you'll see an error and can try again - a limited number of attempts are allowed before you'll need to start over with your bank details.
Once verified, the card shows Connected - Bank account (direct debit) and you're done. Platform fees are now collected from this account going forward.
What happens if a payment fails#
If a fee collection attempt fails, you'll see a warning banner across your account ("Payment Failed... add funds within a few days or your account will be blocked") until it's resolved. If it isn't resolved in time, your account is temporarily suspended - contact support or your bank to sort out the issue, and your account is reactivated automatically once the payment succeeds.
If your bank rejects or revokes the direct debit authorization itself (rather than one payment failing), your account is suspended right away rather than waiting out the usual grace period, since there's nothing to wait for - a broken authorization won't fix itself.
Good to know#
- One billing method at a time. Switching from card to bank account (or the reverse) replaces your current method.
- No disconnect button once connected. Unlike the card option, there's currently no self-service way to unlink a bank account once it's fully verified - reconnecting the exact same account afterward isn't reliable. If you need to change banks, contact support.
- You can still back out before it's verified. While your account is in "Verifying" or a similar in-progress state, a Disconnect option lets you abandon that attempt and start over with different details.
Troubleshooting#
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| I don't see "Bank account" as an option | Your country may not be supported yet (currently NZ/AU only), or you may be missing the Billing permission - ask your account admin. |
| The two deposit amounts don't match what I entered | Double-check your bank statement for the exact amounts (they're small, a few cents) - not a round number. Contact support if you've run out of attempts. |
| My account is suspended and I've already fixed the payment issue | Reactivation happens automatically, usually within a few minutes of the payment succeeding. If it's been longer, contact support. |
| I want to switch banks after already connecting | There's no self-service disconnect once verified - contact support to have your account reset so you can link a new one. |
